Before La Ferme Urbaine, Skander Kacem worked in the fuel distribution sector — a world away from farming.
Then came a phase of personal research: he took an interest in organic farming and then in hydroponics, convinced that cleaner, more controlled production was possible.
He rounded out this research with study trips to Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands, where hydroponics is a mature industry.
His first trials led to a documented success: a production of about 2,500 lettuces, proof that the model works under Tunisian climate.
He then founded La Ferme Urbaine and positioned himself among the pioneering players of hydroponics in Tunisia.
A more recent step: developing an NFT system powered by solar energy, in the logic of ever more autonomous production.
